Homity Pie (Vegetarian)
Homity Pie is a traditional open vegetable pie and is such a delicious versatile meal that can be eaten hot or cold. We decided to add this option in our “fresh, made to order” pie list we are promoting.
It has its origins during the 2nd World War as the ingredients used reflect the rationing at the time. The short crust pastry case contains potatoes, chopped onion and spring onion (rather than leeks) and is topped with melted cheese.
We added a pinch of garlic, cracked pepper and salt to complement the vegetables. I think this pie is a winner as it is great for picnics with a spicy coleslaw and can be eaten warm as well. A splash of cheese sauce really sets this homely offering off. Simply delicious.

To reheat, use a preheated oven gas mark 5/190 degrees celsius. Place on a baking tray and cook for 20-25 minutes. Please ensure food is piping hot throughout before serving.
